Common Complaints:
• Claim to sell fractional ownerships instead of timeshares, but in reality they are not deeded properties, just contracts for timeshare weeks.
• Salesperson claims that all travel expenses would be a tax write off against the property ownership because it is a fractional ownership.
• Salesperson claims that Sierra will rent out their timeshare weeks for a profit. Sierra charges a listing fee, but then never rents the weeks, and they stop answering the phone.
• Many clients have received calls from Sierra about a year after their purchase stating that they have a buyer for their Velas Vallarta property. They are told that they just need to pay for the title search and taxes into an escrow account and then they money from the buyer will be released to the seller. The seller wires the money to the escrow company, and then never hears from them again.
• Offer an annuity program where clients are promised to get their full investment back after 25 years if they pay an extra 5-7% of the purchase price to Lloydshare, the third party company that organizes the annuity.

This is the most common timeshare scam, many people have come to us because of this option. If a client already has a timeshare, the salesman makes the customer believe that the resort will buy their timeshare or refer them to an agency that will ...

Hi I have a time share from vv that appeared to be very good and paying them for 2 years now, however I never had the chance to use it and when I requested something from them they're attitudes were totally different then when they had me there 2 years ago wanting me to join. I have been recently contacted by a collection agency which spoke to me unethically and threatened to garnish my wages. I know now that something needs to be done.

My wife and I purchased a "fractional ownership" from Grand Velas for Casa Velas in January of 2008. Long story short...we were lied to and scammed out of $15000. Do we have any recourse?
Liza
we purchased a time share at velas vallarta in Puerto Vallarta and they were to take the other time share in USA that we had in exchange for what we understood was half of the price. After we got home and after a couple of months we found out they did not take over the other time share and we are stuck with both time shares. Paying both off and the maintance fees and taxes.

Unfortunately for us like many others, we were to scammed when we visited Vallarta Mexico.During a 90 min timeshare presentation we attended at the Velas Vallarta Resort. After showing no interest and declining many offers to join which took over 6 hrs.the Vacation Club purchase was then advertised as a good financial investment which sounded appealing to us.Now it is obvious that this membership was a Scam, in which a Timeshare purchase was advertised as an investment and discount travel deal. Stay away from these fraudulent presentations at Velas Vallarta It is a scam.

My wife and I just returned to USA after our trip in Cancun I began my due-diligence and researched Velas Vallarta I am incredibly upset to find message boards like this! We paid a deposit of $5125 USD in exchange for 4 weeks per year that we signed over to Velas Vallarta as "marketing weeks." We were told we would be paid $1500 USD per week in exchange for allowing the resort to use the time for marketing purposes, for a total of $6000 USD per year. When I returned home, I received a call, from , the manager who supervised our sale. He notified me that the cheque would be coming shortly and that I will be contacted by the broker company within 15 days. No such contact has occurred. I have already emailed profeco and I am awaiting contact from them.

I did purchase my Time-share at Velas Vallarta Pto. Vallarta-Mexico on March 17, 2008 . It was for 15 years to be used every other year. This was put on my Bank of America Mastercard, the amount was $9,000 for a studio, for one week per year. The salesperson did get me to purchase membership for $700 with Sierra Resort for them to sell my old Timeshare. Before getting this membership, I did ask him are these people honest and reliable. He told me they will take care of me. Then I spoke to a Ms. Jenney Lopez using the salesperson cell-phone. I gave her my mastercard charge over the phone to join. But back in March/2009, I was contacted by Sierra Resort about an offer to sell my Velas Vallarta time-share for $17,000. I would get at least $13,000.00 because my first use of the time-share wouldn't be until 2010. I had $2,000 put on my mastercard to cover the closing costs. Also many months later additional $800 was sent Aug/2010 to cover additional taxes they found. I did pay my 2010 maint. fee of $700 for the year thinking the time-share would be sold. But never did use it at all. I did file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. After trying by telephone, mail, and fax but to no avail in contacting Sierra Resort. I did have contact with a Ms. Monica Dallegrave Corporarate Representative Velas Resorts Group at Velas Vallarta about this matter. I also just contacted her days ago. She was sent a photo-copy of my Bank of America Mastercard June/ 2008 statement for the purchase of the Time-share at Velas Vallarta. Ms. Dallegrave said that Velas Vallarta didn't know anything about this company called Sierra Resort. But the same telephone number appears next to it. As does the Desarrollos telephone number. It was a stupid mistake in trusting this company called Sierra Resort.

Purchased at Casa Velas and turns out to be a complete scam.It is not what they said it was going to be. Rental weeks were never sold as promised. I just want to get a return of my money.

Help! I was pressured into buying a time share Jan. 25 in Vallarta, and then tonight I got pressured into paying upfront for a TS contract cancellation service! God, what a nightmare. I've never felt so stupid in all my life!

I've been called by Market value properties. They are saying they have a person looking to rent weeks of my timeshare at Velas Vallarta resort in Porto Vallarta. This person will put $100,000 into an escrow account and then the escrow co. will pay me the proceeds minus the future maintaince fees and the 8% comission to market value properties. I don't pay any upfront fees. It sounds to good to be true, what do you think?

I purchased a small package at Velas Vallarta. After reading through the paper work, I can see I didn't end up with the same deal they were offering at the table. They also made several references to renting and significant revenue from owning the property.
Marilyn
I was scammed by Velas and Sierra trying to sell my Velas Vallarta time share. They made me several promises and I spent hundred of dollars. There any way to cancel my contract and get my money back?
Gregory
The salesman told my wife and I many lies and we just want out. The point swap and rerent are non-existent and they gave us a rental company to sell for us then once paid to sell we never could reestablish contact. This was part of the sales tactic in order to get us to sign. Sierra Rental would rent our timeshare for $8,000 the first year and it would pay for the timeshare. Bold faced lie as a sales tactic.

My wife and I bought a timeshare on March 20 in Puerto Vallarta. After returning home, we realized that we had made a mistake and sent a registered letter with return receipt requested on 25 March to rescind the contract. We have not yet received a receipt and an e-mail inquiry has gone unanswered. I made a down payment of approx. $7000.

we attended a presentation at Velas Vallarta in Puerto Vallarta. the salesman talked a good story and convinced us his rental company, could sell our old timeshare for $30,000 USD and our Villa Del Mar timeshare for $9,000 USD. Once those were sold, we agreed to purchase a membership with his company for $35,000.00 USD. Of course, we had to pay a "transfer fee" upfront in the amount of $6,000. The transfer fee was also supposed to be reimbursed to us on the sale of the two timeshares. All we had to do was pay the transfer fee and provide proof of ownership of the two timeshares. We provided proof of ownership and of course the transfer fee was paid before we left the presentation. The last contact we have had with he was an e-mail advising he had received all the necessary paperwork and the transfer as in process. We have tried emails, telephone calls (a machine always answers and nobody ever returns our calls), and certified mail -- the address on the contract does not even exist as our certified mail came back marked "no such address".

I purchased a timeshare at Grand Vellas in Puerta Vallarta and I want to get out of, for untrue maintnance fees and expences. I have a timeshare that has more then douibled in the past 4 years by way of increasing fees and want to know about opting out.

We were at VV in January. We bought into their program since they guarantied to purchase our existing time share. No one has contacted us and I think they are out of business. I think our salesman scammed us but he won't call or email us back on our attempted contacts. Can you help us?
Matthew
We got scammed by Velas and Sierra . We got aproached by Sierra, asking us if we wanted to sell our Velas Timeshare. We paid maintenance, the fee for tital search and than came the investment tax. No money yet, and all the lines went dead.

We purchased at Velas Vallarta two years ago, they told us it was a good investment and we could accelerate our contract to 4 weeks a year and rent those with Sierra for $2000 a week. Of course, we paid $500 to Sierra and have never seen a penny of that. They brougth us 6 beers each over the course of the presentation, and we ended up buying. I have been unable to contact them because their phone number doesn't work and they will not return my emails. I have tried to call and email my salesman on numerous ocassions, but again, all with the same result.

I got a timeshare that was not what was promised. I sent a certified letter within the five days, they emailed me and said they received the letter but are refusing to cancel the timeshare or return my deposit. What Should I do now?

We purchased a time share in Velas Vallarta four years ago with the understanding that we could rent them out and make money. We were contacted by Sierra Resorts to sell the timeshares last October . We sent closing costs of $1,800. We filled out a deposit form and was supposed to receive the transfer of funds in January. Now when you call Sierra, the lines are busy and their e-mails are returned.

Purchased a Vila Plus Deluxe from Velas Vallarta. Offered to deal with Dreams to rent and recoup some of our costs. Such never happened, recently approached by Sierra Corporate Sales and Rentals to purchase. After paying fees, they've now disappeared! Interested in selling so that I may enjoy vacations in Mexico without having this situation always on my mind!

My wife and I are absolutely sick over this timeshare we were pressured into buying through lies and deception during our family vacation . The salesman for Velas Vallarta repeatedly assured us that they would gladly take back the timeshare for whatever was owed on it if we changed our mind for any reason at any time in the future. Having that supposed safetynet was the only reason we went through with it. We of course missed the 5 day rescission period by the time we returned home and studied the details. Now the salesman will not return our calls and the operators insist they never take back timeshares.
