•    Salespeople claim that the points have more value than they actually do for exchange purposes.
•    Clients are sent the full contract on a CD to their home address. They do not receive a full copy to review and decide whether or not they want to cancel within the 5 day rescission period allowed by Mexican Law.
•    Salespeople offer to resell a previously owned timeshare or take it over in trade so that the client is only responsible for the maintenance fees for the new timeshare. This never happens.

My husband took me to Cancun,Mexico for the first time and we were greeted by a couple people who were suppose to take us to our taxi but it took a long time since they wanted to give us free things such as a Tulum Express and Chichinitza passes, there is alot of lies in this time share we thought it was all good but it turns out that is not the case. I can not use any of my points until 2013 but yet my first payments was January 2011. I need to get my money back if all possible.

Nicole

I purchased a timeshare and they offer to buy a time share we already had and were so astute in describing the deal, I eat it all up. After five months of trying to get a hold of them through e-mails and phone calls that have gone unanswered, I have given up on the money, the vacation, everything. I still get mad at times (at me mostly). When I first came aware of what was happening I did not want to believe it;after it settled in, I went from deeply depressed and mad, to feeling embarrassed and powerless.

Lundy

Hi there! I bought a timeshare in Mexico, was I so stupid?Yes... My problem is a my contract.Verbally and written we made a contract as my points yearly will be 9600 and maintenance fees is altern,,when I read very carefully my contract,,there written opposite things,,I have to pay maint fee yearly ,but using points alternate.I paid about 6500 down payment and they says we can`t refund them.

We purchased a time share with El Cid Mazatlan when we were there in March 2011 where we signed a contract with them with an adendum, two resale documents signed by them and by us, that they would sell our two timeshares and we would purchase their time share. Our time shares were to be sold for a certain amount both within a time-frame. The time-frames have passed and as such, we contacted El Cid and stated that we now consider our time-share with them null and void. They are not allowing us out of our contract, we still have our two time-shares and they now have an American debt collector after us.

We came to Cozumel island, Mexico for a vacation. At the airport we were offered a free car rental valued at $500 for “visiting a new Hotel El Cid in Puerto Morelos, Mexico”. We were told that this is a new hotel, and they want us to check it out, so we will stay there in the future. There was no mentioning of timeshares or timepoints during the free car rental offer. When we visited the hotel  we were given a presentation about timepoints, hotel tour and an offer to sing a contract. We were not well prepared for the offer and did not even have reading glasses to read it carefully. The verbal offer looked good and we signed the contract and paid a down payment of $8000. After returning back from the vacation to USA, we had read the contract closely to find many differences between the verbal offer given to us.

Erica

Hi, i have a memership with el cid, for 113,000 points. I have paid over 7500.00 over a period of 3 years. I have not use any of my points and dont intent to use them since i was misleading and lie to.

Alma

James

Wow....We have experienced the same type of issues with El Cid as most of the testimonies read; not following through on promises of contract, maintenance fees continuing to rise annually, reported to a collection agency.

Lisa

timeshare purchase since they said I could recover my money through the sales of the timeshare weeks with Sierra rental company. Sierra rental company has never called my regarding the rental weeks bieng sold and their number has changed each year. Also when they did call they tried to upgrade my membership crazy. Plus maintenance fees always go up each year.

Maribel

Diana

Help, promised many things by El Cid Mazatlan. Was rushed through signing and not given copy of contract. Was not what we bought.

Robin

We purchased an El Cid timeshare and are not happy with it. We have been  victim of misrepresentation. We would like to get out of the contract and not have a mark on our credit report.we tried to cancel the next day and wouldn´t allow us to cancel and refund our down payment .we need help

ken

3 year ago we bought a timeshare at El cid, they lied us and we are looking the cancellation of our contrac. What are our chances of cancelling the current contract and getting our money back? They have received almost $40,000 in cash as a result of the fake $20000 addendum.  Would also like to be sure that they don't report this to collection agency or credit reporting bureau.

Marvin

Hi Ken - we paid the same amount. What happened to your case? Marvin

Angelica

Susan

I was promised that they would purchase my old  timeshare  for $30,000 US but nothing happend.  They completely misrepresented the benefits. I want to cancel my contract and I have problems contacting them.

debbie orenchuk

The same thing happened to us. We were ASSURED that our original timeshare would be sold within three months by Cecil Jensen. It has been almost a year now and nothing has happened. We feel soooo stupid for not listening to our inner voice

Laura

Victoria

I also had a bad experience with the El Cid Resort in Mazatlan. They sold me a timeshare with so many promises, but were never able to deliver any. Every time I called to make a reservation, either the system was down or they would get back to me but never did. My timeshare is fully paid and I haven't gotten a cent out of it. I practically threw away $22,000!

Tanya

Hi Victoria, we are in the same situation, with the same $$ figure. We paid it in full but did not use it. Did you try to cancel the contract? We are thinking of sending them a registered letter with a request to cancel the contract and get some money back. have you stopped paying the maintenance fee? Thanks, Tanya

Isabel

Peter

Like others we bought our timeshare at El Cid Cozumel while on a cruise. A few years ago we booked a week there, they didn't even have our names in their database as timeshare owners. Am I still obligated to pay Wyndham the maintenance fees? Which have more than doubled since our purchase. Yes, we were told we could rent out our week and make money, that we'd have first priority when we book at El Cid, none of which is true. I'd like to just be done with the maintenance fees and I am willing to walk away from the timeshare.

Gustavo

Romy

Bought into  El cid last year and was promised they would sell 3 weeks back and give me $$$ and also sell my Royal Holiday contract. I have not received a money from them and I spent  thousand of dollars. also they promised me that my timeshare will offer me exceptional benefits and discounts for airfare, car rental, cruises, hotels or tours.

David

I bought a timeshare from El cid . Verbal promises given in the presentation, especially regarding resale value of the time share does not reflect on the contract language. During presentation  our sales person promised to buy back the timeshare when I need to sell it. However, this is does not reflect in the contract. Last week I sent an email to sunset group requesting my membership cancellation. So far I haven't heard anything from them.

Neal

We received an email from a lady from "Resort Development Consultants" who said they would like to purchase our points/contract and that if we "didn't like the offer, then we could counter"! I have never heard someone offer to counter their proposal so I automatically had a sick feeling in my stomach and started checking it out online. After reading all these testimonials, I am starting to get sick again because I realized that I've been duped by El Cid. Everything seemed official and normally I am so skeptical, but when I was on vacation, I guess I let my guard down and handed them a fistful of money! I feel stupid!

Eleanor Kilroy

This is a well-known scam. They are in cahoots with the original sellers.

Margaret

We were conned into buying a timeshare at El cid.We had asked for cancellation and been givin the run around by a Rep who said they were sending us our refund back we have nor recived anything from them also recived a phone call from Spanish solutions he said he works in collections .When we were on holdays in mexico we were told by the salesperson that we would get half price all inclusive rates we found were not true he said he was going to make a ph call and book us a hotel at the westin in edmonton fopr grey cup week for 25.00 per night grey cup is like the super bowl in the usa it is a big event when we returned home I phoned the hotel no reservation was ever made and the rooms were over 300.00 per night thats when we cantacted them requesting a full refund of the money we put down on the package. We were lied to and have demanded our money back.

Aaron Gold

I am one of many victims of timeshare scam in Cancun. I have a paid in full time share in cancun, purchased  with the promise they  would sell my Mayan Palace weeks.I cannot afford the maintenance fees any longer since I retired and would like to get out of the timeshare.

Kerry Lin

Bought a timeshare last year in Mazatlan, el cid, came back to visit this year and realized it was a bad decision. Sale was lots of double talk and promises that weren't fulfilled. What can I do? Can I just stop paying the financing? Can I recover any portion of my money?

Bonnie

I recently purchased a time share at El cid in cozumel and was promised that they would purchase my old  timeshare  for $30k. I have credit card debt of $27,800 and owe 15,00 more. They promised an electronic transfer when they recieved my swift code and copy of my other contract .I have problems contacting them  . I am a 75 yr old widow with a fixed income and I think I am being scammed.

Daniel

Need help getting a timeshare contract cancelled from El Cid purchased in October 2005 and paid only one year of maintainance fees. Now a collection company has notified me of a balance due. Can I get this debt cleared and the contract cancelled? thanks.

Ricard

Timeshare was purchased from El Cid on Feb. 20, 2011 for 35,000.00. Already paid over 15,000,00 on my mastercard. They supposedly have a buyer for my Velas Vallarta membership . So far they have had me pay transfer fees of $6270.00 USD to a bank in Mexico and now have come up with the need for me to pay $8,545.00 USD in an IVA tax. Are these legitimate or am I being scammed?

Anwar Esteban

Ruth

We bought a timeshare in Mazalan, Mexico from El Cid. They completely mis represented the benefits. I have tried numoureoius times to cancel and they will not get back with me.

Delvin

Looks like we got caught in an El Cid vacations Club scam, I guess now that the trade-in of my previous timeshare and rent of next year's El Cid is all fraudulent, signed documents notwithstanding. I haven't paid my credit card bill, it's not due yet, is there any reason to believe that we can dispute the charge?

Veronica

rso

have been members of a El cid timeshare for 2 years. have never used points want out many levels of misrepresentation. We were taken advantage of by El cid and would like some help.

Brandry

I have owned timeshare at El Cid Resorts for many years. Some of it has been good, but recently I increased my points usage with the promise of renting several weeks a year for $6,000.00 US Dls a week. It was a lie, the company they were registering my weeks with never recieved the forms or fee to register it with them. Now if I want to register my weeks for rental the Phoneix Travel Co. wants about a $800.00 US Dls in fees paid up front. I think I would never recieve any rental income.

Remy

I purchased a timeshare from EL Cid Vacation Club. I was promised alot of things and I have noticed it is not true. It has only been 8 days and want to cancel as soon as possible. Please tell me what I can do.

Joshua

My wife and I  purchased a timeshare at El Cid while on vacation . Now that I am trying to book a holiday I am discovering all the lies we were told. First off, they promised us that they were able to get us huge discounts on airfare. They showed us a page of airfare prices way lower then standard prices. Now, they are telling me that they do nothing with airfare, I have to find my own. At the meeting I stated that often airfare is more expensive then a package deal and was told, Not with the discounts we can get you. Next, they told us that some resorts were all inclusive, and there were no addition fees for them, just redeeming your points. Now, I need to pay $75 per person per day in AI fees. This works out to more then I can book the exact same room for on my own. They also stated that there were no annual fees, yet now I am being told that there is a usage fee that must be paid each year to use the holiday package. It seems that everything they told us was a lie.

El cid scam

When I went to Mexico in November I purchased a timeshare El Cid Recreaton Club. I was in a cruise and did this in a couple of hours due to time. I felt pressured and should not have signed the contract. They said I could sell if I did not like the plan. They sent me a bill and I paid half of the timeshare on the credit card  they sent me . Then they sent me a bill for $100, an assessment charge which I paid, I then received a 3rd bill for maintenance fees for 2010 . When I called and said I did not purchase until Nov and did not own the entire year  they said I had to pay it as it would be maintenance from 2010 until Oct 2011. I told them I wanted to get rid of the timeshare and they said I cannot. I told them that the salesman said I could sell and they said this is not so? This was purchased in Nov 2010 - I was told that in Mexico they did not have a rescision of contract; however on the internet there have been other complaints about El Cid indicating that there is indeed 5 days to rescind a contract and I was never told about this.

Irlous

I just bought a time share based on their purchasing my other time shares. I see on the internet that they promise this but dont come through. I paid $12K for their share

Thomas

I purchased a timeshare under a weeks program to start then on my first vacation was convinced to switch over to a point system and was up sold to paying a bigger payment which now has increased my maintanence fees. I can not afford this payment and extra fees.

Samantha Bassils

We purchased a Timeshare from El Cid. We have tried to use it to no avail. We have contacted El Cid re cancelling and they say we can cancel but they will keep our deposit. We have disputed the charges with our credit card company and so far are winning. However, this is only for the deposit. I have to dispute the balance, which is charged every single month.

CathyWhite

I purchase El cid timeshare on August 2009 November 2010 in Cancún, when I came back from my holidy I started searching information and the only thing I see is scam. I make a 5000 deposit. There is a way to cancel this contract before I will wasting more money?

Gibson

We purchased an El Cid timeshare in 2003 and we were very mislead on how we could use it. We were told the 'points' would accumulate and we could save them up for an exchange, however, this is not true and we never have enough points to exchange. We have been unable to ever use it and the only thing we have ever done is pay monthly amounts for no vacation. We are tired of paying for nothing.

debbie

We were also foolish and got hooked into the "We will have our reputable company sell your existing timeshare". Cecil Jenzen was the salesman. We have not heard from either the company that was supposed to sell the time share or Mr. Jenzen. We reaize how foolish we were to not have sold first and bought second. Will NEVER go to another time share presentation. My husband and I are both well education people, you would think we would know better.

Jeff

The salesman told my wife and I many lies and we just want out. The point swap and rerent are non-existent and they gave us a rental company to sell for us then once paid to sell we never could reestablish contact. This was part of the sales tactic in order to get us to sign. Sierra Rental would rent our timeshare for $4,000 the first year and it would pay for the timeshare.

Kerry

We bought a timeshare in Mazalan, Mexico from El Cid. They completely mis represented the benefits. I have tried numoureoius times to cancel and they will not get back with me.

Debra

I have owned my timeshare since 1995 and it was fine until 2007. I stopped being able to rent it out to cover the maintenance fees when the economy turned bad. I paid "Timeshares Only" to sell it or rent it and have not received a single call or inquiry. I keep receiving direct mail now from "Simple Solutions" and other companies which I assume is another scam to simply take over the timeshare and not pay me anything?? I don't know though. Do you know anything about "Simple Transfers?"

George

I have owned timeshare at El Cid Resorts for many years. Some of it has been good, but recently I increased my points usage with the promise of renting several weeks a year for $7,000.00 US Dls a week. It was a lie, the company they were registering my weeks with never recieved the forms or fee to register it with them. Now if I want to register my weeks for rental the Phoneix Travel Co. wants about a $650.00 US Dls in fees paid up front. I think I would never recieve any rental income. Recently a new, (I believe scam) has come about. I was contacted by a consultant company, R D Consultants, a Mr. Hawkes wishing to buy my timeshare contract at El Cid Resorts. 830,000 points for $79,000.00 US Dls. The catch is you need to use their designated time share company. "Mexcrow Title" in Mexico City. The contract would require me to place in escrow $1,900.00 US Dls for Documentation preperation fees. My reserch failed to really find that there really existed such a title company. Hope that El Cid Resorts isn't apart of this new scam.

Chris

Did you go through with the sale? I have also been contacted by Mr. Hawkes.

Manuel

kourtney

I would like to know what can I do to get rid of my timeshare if I´m out of my  five days of cancellation period. I was scammed by the sales person from El cid. He made usbelieve that he was a good person, and so we decided to buy a membership from him. Now that we know what he did, we feel completely foolish, how could he dothis to us?  He stole a lot of money from us,  and they continue stealing from us with the maintenance fees.Royal elite

Sharon

What can I do if I signed a contract with El Cid vacation club, and the information that they told me was false?  They told me that with my points I would have a better room, but when I check the information on the website that the seller provided me, I noticed that with the points I purchased I cannot book the type of room that they told me that I would have. I´m not interested in investing more money to get that kind of room and now I do not want the membership because it doesn´t offer what I was promised.

Marissa Fernandez

Ronald Baker

I called Profeco because we were scammed by El cid, but we were on our 6th day after we bought the property. They told us that we should have read the contract before we signed it and that they can do nothing because we are out of our 5 days cancellation and we do not have evidence to prove that we were scammed. I´m starting to think that El cid and Profeco work together.

Judy

My timeshare at el cid was a scam and I want to cancel it, I´m not able to sell it and I don’t have enough money to pay for it, I spent a lot of money listing my property for sale, but it didn´t work. Now we are having difficult times and we can’t pay the membership. I emailed several times the resort and they didn’t help me either. I would like to know if you can do anything to help me?

Duane

I have ready alot of the comentarios on your site from other timeshare owners with regards to the El Cid Towers/El Moro Beach timeshare.

I have experienced pretty much exactly what all of the others are stating have been their experiences.

I bought a timeshare with them through the Holiday Group off the internet located in the US (I am in Canada).  I paid $1800 for this contract and I used it for the first time in Feb/10.  1bdrm, huge place, absolutely loved it, 8 yrs, $680 maintenance.

I am currently in the process of buying another timeshare at the Inn at Mazatlan for a $1 from ebay.  I stayed in this resort with family members last yr.  This account is to last till 2039 and $372 maintenance.

I have to say I absolutely LOVE Mazatlan and the Mexican culture, and I would love to actually own a house down there in one of their gated communities.

However, when I was staying at the El Cid, I went to a timeshare presentation and "hooked on" to my aunt/uncles timeshare at "deeply" discounted prices.  My timeshare, for which I thought I was getting another 1bdrm as the one I stayed in turns out it is for 110,000 points.  I went to book it, now for the last month - to no avail, and alot of runaround.  The only thing I supposedly qualify for is 95,000 points with 15,000 extra points.  They said they would take my 8yr contract from previous deal and roll into this one to have given me the better deal.  I finally actually managed to find this one, but deal only with front reception.  In some ways from them not being able to acquire it makes me feel as tho this may be my only saving grace tho I havent actually tried to book it yet, but have booked being in Mazatlan again this yr for another 3 wks in Feb.

Anyways, this 15yr contract cost me 17k, paid around 5k down, and a loan in San Diego contacting me with payments for the other 12k.  Their interest rate is thru the roof, and they keep losing my payments and tacking on 10% of the total each month as a late charge.  I supposedly have an RCI account but they keep transferring me to different units which say they are all El Cid but no one knows what the other is doing.  I thought ok I will just live with the screwup and sell the extra points, one of the main reasons why I got involved.  Uh-yea, the extra points cant be sold.  I was also told I could sell these points back to them for actual REAL real estate they owned I could buy from them to build a house on to live there, a place of my own, and another reason why I bought the timeshare.  I also wanted to borrow points from future yrs to make up to a 1bdrm.  Cant do this either, well sort of..for a price.  Was told I could use all 15yrs in 1yr if I wanted.  Nope, cant do that either.  None of this has turned out to be true.

Now reading all of this I have a few concerns...I plan to keep the 8yr contract and the new one I will acquire in the next month from the Inn at Mazatlan.  How will going through this affect my ability to re-enter Mexico, or Mazatlan in general?  Ive heard a few horror stories of being approached by Mexican officials threatening you to leave their country or bodily harm when rescinding on a contract such as this.  If I want to use my 8yr contract but only want out of the one 15 yr 17k one, how will this affect my ability to stay in their resort in the future, or any other resort for that matter?  How much do you charge if you are able to cancel the contract?

My family has been staying at and going to Mazatlan at the Inn at Mazatlan for the last 28yrs and the Pueblo for the last 19yrs with no problems.  I plan to keep going there over and over again with my family.  I love the city and the country and being only mid-30's I have alot of yrs left I'd like to go there and not be afraid of some sort of harm or retribution.

Can I have a little more reassurance on this one?  And, how would this procedure be handled favorably?  I am not interested in making any enemies in a foreign country I plan to return to.

Thanks,

Duane

I am trying to cancel my timeshare with El Cid Vacation Club. After reviewing the contract, we decided that we did not want to keep the timeshare. We are within our 5 days rescission period but we don’t want to have problems to cancel our contract.  We require your services and my husband has sent you an email already with all our information.

Dora Martinez Zepeda

My wife and I were also victims of the El Cid Vacation Club (Puerto Moreles). We were deceived in many ways and would like to speak to someone about how we can get out of this fraudulent contract. We are concerned about our credit and confused as to how this could even be on our credit if we did not provide our SS#'s. Please call me or email me anytime. We are serious about getting information and resolving this issue as soon as possible.

Kristine

We were taken advantage by el cid and we would like some help, we were promised that our property would be sold for $50,000 US we were counting with that amount to pay some debts and part of the membership at el cid, now that we discover that we are never going to receive that money we are desperate and we don’t have the money to pay the membership .

Catherine Katsly

We purchased a timeshare in Mazatlan with el cid. What we signed and what we thought we were getting was different. We purchased on the understanding that our timeshare would be bought  by el cid and with that money was going to pay our membership, that was what the seller told us, but 2 days ago they change the agreement, now they told us that  we have to pay the membership because the other membership wasn`t sold yet and our time has expired  and that they did not acquire our membership and they are not the company in charge of selling the property.

Rose

I want to know if there is anything I can do to get out of my contract with El cid. We were completely misrepresented, the contract was signed on June 12th,2010. We made a down payment for $3,000 which if possible I would like to get back.

Arnold

What should I do if I don´t want my membership anymore and I´m out of my 5 days rescission period…I don’t feel comfortable with  my membership because I have not received any communication from them. They told me that I would receive some paperwork and I never got it, despite several phone calls asking for them to sent it to me.

Mark

We purchased a membership at el cid vacations club and when we return home we have attempted to use the contact information provided to us and could not reach anyone. We have left messages and no messages have been returned. We believe that el cid misrepresented their product, have not delivered the services that they reported to be selling. Therefore, we are looking the cancellation of our contract.

Greg

I´m so confused because I was told that with my points I will have access to another kind of bedroom, but I have just seen on the official website and the point chart and I realize that it is different to the other one that my sales person show me, I’m scared of becoming a victim of timeshare , but after seeing all these comentarios, I have the worst  foreboding

Ninet Stuarts

I have 4 timeshares one of them at El cid vacations club, I was told that buying and renting my timeshare was a good deal, now that I have 4 and I have not been able to  rent even once and less for the price that the resort told me, I´m thinking about giving  away all of them. I know that I spent a lot of money on them, but it is better for my no to invest more money on them.

Jim

I´m very dissatisfied with my membership with el cid, first hey told me that they would rent my weeks but they never did, I let it pass but I always have problems to contact them, they never have availability  for me,  I had my membership for  5 years now and I only been able to used my membership once, and when I used the rooms were dirty, I don’t know what happened with this resort it is supposed to be a good resort. I have been waiting for a long  time to see if it improves the situation, but I am tired of expecting and not seeing improvements

James Brandi

el cid el moro beach towers...we cancelled within 5 days for the refund....never got done...paid for while then wanted out as we couldnt book any vacations at times wanted...couldnt rent weeks as promised resale in toilet which is totaly opposite of what was promissed as well as the new spain vacation that was supposedly free but was told they were not accepting those certificates and it would cost 549 per person and all food and drink....no calls returned just a monthly letter from a california based collection agency. we have paid thousands into this scam

My husband and I were invited to a timeshare presentation by a  very friendly person. When we were there, we purchased a membership for $35,000 at El Cid and we paid in full. The next day we attempted to cancel our contract at the resort within the 5 day cancellation period, but the seller told us that we couldn´t as we had signed a waiver rescinding our right to cancel the timeshare within 5 day recsission period. We believed him and we returned home, thinking that the only thing that we could do was to use the membership, but when my hunsband found your web page on internet he read an article about the recsission period and we noticed that we were scammed and what the seller told us was a lie.

Rosalinda

I was scammed by el cid, they sold my something different that I what I thought I was buying because the salesman told me that they would help me to rent my weeks and el cid would take my California timeshare as a part of the deal  but nothing of that happen and I´m worried because I don’t have enough money to pay the membership in full.  My friend  told me that you can help me, I hope you can.

Mandy

I am very desperate, I went to a presentation of timeshare at El cid and  I ended up by buying a membership, the monthly payments are very high and all the promises that the sales person  said  to us are not in our contract and certainly now the sales person and his manager do not want to take responsibility . I have been emailing them to let them know my desire of canceling the contract. but  they  don’t  answer my emails and when they finally did , they told me in a rude way  that I couldn´t cancel my membership.

Richard

I just want to know if I´m out of my 5 days cancellation period, Can I cancel my membership? Because I´m not happy with some promises they made us and they told us now that they not going to be honored, because there are not in the contract.

Sue

I´m tired of be ignored, I have been trying to contact the responsible this timeshare scam and nobody  respond me, if I´m late with my payments they always send me emails to remain me that I need to pay  my  membership but when I sent them my petition of cancellation they disappeared and  never answer my emails and phone calls

Carry

What can we do if   a seller from el cid promised us that he would sell our old timeshare and he didn`t call us back  neither answered our calls and emails. Should we call  his supervisor? Or what we should do?

JJ R

We were invivted to a presentation at el cid vacation club, we were tired and we want to go rest to our hotel  so we purchased a membership, but under some conditions, the seller told us that we don have to pay maintanances fees  and of course that took our attention and we though that the membership it was a really good opportunity also the salesman told us that they could take our existing timeshare  and that money could been used to paid part of the membership and we almost have to pay a little amout we signed the papers of course we felt  pushed and we didn´t read all the papers pretty well, so all what he promised to us it wasn´t in the contract and of course they don´t want to honored.

Daniel

Hi, I’m interested in your services, a couple of months a purchased a membership at El cid and it is a scam, I need your help, and I need to cancel this contract.

Nancy

We purchased a membership because the seller told us that if we don`t want it anymore s we can sell it back, we got back to the resort and we told them  what the seller told us and  they response that they don´t buy timeshares , can you believe it that?

Rosario

Tim

I`m very concern because I purchased a membership based in lies, I ´m sharing my experience because I don’t want that this happen to other tourists , these people are bad and  they  steal your money in a smart way. Be careful  and stay away from timeshare presentations.

Thomas

I`m in my 5 days recession period and I need your help, I want to be sure about the process  that I need to follow, please contact me to get the best advice.

Mark

We bought a timeshare in Mazatlan  we were told many lies  about  rental income we were promised to receive, I have tried to contact the resort to discuss our situation but it was impossible they are hiding from us.

Murray

I purchase a membership at el cid under the understanding that they would rent my weeks   and my timeshare would be paid by itself with that money. I paid $23,000 as a down payment,  I have called to the broker company but they never answer my phones  and I have never used the timeshare. I though this is not a good invest for me and I`m looking the cancellation of my contract.

Anely

We went to  a timeshare presentation at el cid resort, we were  very tired  and  we only wanted to go back to our hotel, we bought a membership because the seller told us that we could cancel the membership at the end of the day in an easy way but if we wanted the gifts we have to attend the presentation . We got back to the resort the next day in order to cancel our timeshare contract as the seller told us but  they told us that the person in charge was not able to receive us . We did not have any communication with someone until we got  back home and he told us that we couldn`t cancel our contract.

Due

I purchased a membership with El cid for $20,000 US on 15 July, all that the seller told me was a lie I`m so angry and I want to get rid of this contract.

My wife and I were at EL Cid in February 2010.   Went to a time share briefing with a guy named Frank from England.  We told him no and then he brought in his supervisor Lui Veloso, who is mentioned many times for lying.  Lui told us he would take our Wyndham time share as a tradein and El Cid would sell it for us by 1 May, 2010 and we would not pay another penny!!  He/El Cid was to sell it and give us an additional 28,000 points for $3,000.00.  After a couple of months I e-mailed him to see if it had sold yet and he says "you are suppose to sell it".  He had a lady call us and say we had to pay an additional $199.00 to sell.  I told her to get the money from El Cid and she never called back.  I complained to Lui Veloso again and he said we could cancel and he would e-mail a cancellation form.  The form would cancel but they were to keep the $3,300.00. I marked out the part where they could keep the $3,300.00 and sent to the office in Las Vegas.  (let's go after the office in las Vegas, I am doing that now).  they have not cancelled and I am getting billed for $11,700.00.  They will nevere get a penny because of his lies.  We have to get after him and El Cid.  I have 8 weeks with the Grand Mayan, 4 with Sea Garden and 2 with wyndham.  Would anyone thing I would buy another $15.000.00 time share for the next 25 years when I am 73.  What a bunch of lying thieving scumbags they are.   I am writing the Mexican and USA Ambassadors and all others should do the same.  Go to every agency we can to get the money back and have them put in jail for FRAUD, ROBBERY AND LYING.  I have also been taken by La Jolla Botique Resort in Mazatlan and Coast to Coast Grand Getaways in Sarasota, just like many others.   I am going after them too.  Coast to Coast Grand Getaways may be worse than El Cid or La Jolla. I am a 73 year old retired Army LT Colonel and just thought they were honest.  I have been on this almost every damn day for 2 years.  Lets also pass all of this to credit card companies.  They need to be more helpful when their card holders are being lied to and robbed by fraud.  I am also going to pass this on to the Governors in Arizona and Colorado, major airports for Mexico.  they should put out information about the time share liars and robbers.

I tried to cancel my timeshare trough profeco and I got nothing I want to know if you could help me, I bought 15k  and it was 5 years ago.

We had a membership at el cid for over 10 years now, we don´t wanted anymore. We don’t want the reimburse of our money because we used it a couple of times, but we don’t want keep paying maintenance fees. Can you help us to cancel it?

Roger

The salesperson  made a lot of promises which were obviously false and totally misleading. I was of the full understanding that we would have an even trade for the Royal Elite  property, all would be settled in the 9 month period with the guarantee sale by Phoenix Vacation Property Management Co for the amount of $14,500.00 USD,   14 months later and we continue waiting for a response…

We went to a horrorible presentation, the person who invited us told us that if we assisted to a presentation of 90 minutes we could get   tickets for a spa and $ 1000MX, they were  trying to get us  drunk  given us  margaritas , my husband drank only one  but when the salesman offered him another one and he didn´t want  it the salesman got angry. After 4 long hours of presentation we were tired. We were foolish and bought a membership that we now discover was over value and it´s not a good deal for us.

Rosa

I´m not happy with my el cid membership, first they told me something and then I found another different thing in my contract, they lied TO me and  stole my money, I don´t recommend  you go to this resort , TOURISTS BE AWARE.

Gracie

I purchased a membership at el cid; the salesman told me that I had 8 weeks at year. Last week  I called  the resort and they told me that I don’t have my 8 weeks because they  only  sell points and the  points that I bought  are only enough for 2 weeks.

Mat

I purchase a timeshare at El cid, I didn´t felt happy with my purchase so I decided  to go back to the resort  to  cancel  my membership, the salesman told me that what I had to do is upgrade my timeshare, so that´s what I did. Now I have the same problem and less money in my account.

David

We bought a timeshare at el cid; they told us that our current timeshare would sell in 90 days. The 90 days period expired one week ago. Should we call the resort?

Mike

I  have  more than one  timeshare  and I can afford all of them. I have never used my membership at Raintree. Can I cancel my Raintree contract?

Michael

I purchased a timeshare at El Cid in 2009 based on the false promises by the salesman. During the sales presentation, I was promised that the 40, 000 points I purchased  would be enough for 3 weeks per year to anywhere in the world.  Later that same night after signing, I realized that most of the destinations cost well over 30, 000 points per week and with many restrictions. The two week vacation promised would be a scam.

Victor G.

When my wife and I were suckered into the purchase of the timeshare at El Cid at Porto Morales, we were under the impression it was a "Vacation Club". Nowhere in the contract does it claim to be a timeshare. We put down a deposit of over $9,000 and paid the first year maintenance fees-$800.00. We were told they would sell our paid off timeshare in Las Vegas as a token of their appreciation for signing with them. I still have that timeshare and they did NOTHING to try to sell it. I make maintenance payments yearly but they claim I am to make monthly maintenance fees. The contract clearly states that I am to make annual maintenance fees. They now allege that I am behind on Maintenance fees. For January and February. I get letters stating this and I refuse to pay because I paid by check the last time and told my credit card company not to pay them when they use my credit card. They have used my credit card without my authorization. They claim that they sent me a refund and to check with my bank. I did and I could not find a refund check. They botched their records. When they starting harassing me about payment-sending emails and letters, that is when I had enough. They breached the contract and I want out.

My husband  and I just returned from a trip to Mazatlan and we were scammed into buying a timeshare in  El Cid resort. Our timeshare presenter told us that they offered a special package for people like us. We could rent out our points each year for a minimum of $5,000. He promised that by renting out our points we would have absolutely no out of pocket costs for 5 years. At the end of 5 years, we would have a timeshare that was mostly paid off, with no cost to us. That was when they asked for a credit card, just to check if we were qualified for the wonderful deal that they were offering us. They returned with a credit line that they opened in our name, that would cover the $7,900 dollar deposit.

When we returned home we found out that everything the presenter promised was a lie.

Amelia & Vernon

We were misrepresented by Rui Veloso at The El Cid The El Moro in Mazatlan, Mexico. We have paperwork given by him stating the rental of the weeks and the 8,000 USD we were supposed to receive out of the rental. He won´t honor his part of the deal and The El Cid does not care about the promises made by their salesman. I see that the owner of The El Cid is Carlo Berdegue, Do you have his email address by any chance?

Thank you.

Megan

I purchased a timeshare from El Cid La Ceiba , in Cozumel MX. It took place on June, 2005. I first dealt with, the Owners Advocate who turned it over to My consumer Activist. It has been sitting with these people for years , and I cannot get anything done on my behalf. I never paid a penny on this share, and have an unusual story to tell on my behalf. I recently tried contacting the owners advocate just to find out that they filed for bankrupcy so there is no way to get my $999 paid to them. Is there anything you could help me to resolve this? It has affected my credit, and also my job searches, they also look at credit reports when applying for work. I have the affidavid, and paperwork you could read to get an Idea . I paid the Owners Advocate , a cost of $1000.00 in the beginning , and they still cannot tell me what I paid for. I am very dissapointed in these two organizations. Now, I see that they have a new website called Taking On Timeshare and looks identically to the webpage the owners advocate used to have.

Chris

Bought El Cid membership. Was lied too and have spent a ton of money in monthly fees so far and 3800 downpayment. If I get a group of 5 people, would our testimony help us filing a class action lawsuit in Mexico? Is the owner of this group Carlo Berdegue?

Patrick

Just bought El Cid ts in Porto Morales,Mexico. They took dwn pmt of 2,500 on Wells Fargo card. TS was bought at price of 8900 or 77,000 pts a year. Promised 2 weeks on odd yrs. Led to believe the pts were in addition to the 2 wks-not given to buys your 2 weeks with. They said they could be used to buy upgrades, tours and airline tickets, etc. Once we arrived home we had time to look into this a little more and realized that 77,000 pts will hardly cover the cost of 4 or 5 days at any resort.

susie and John D.

We have been lied to by Rui Veloso @ El Cid Mazatlan he guaranteed a rental of timeshare , as this would cover most of the costs of our ( upgrade) AS WE were El Cid Fairshare owners allready.. We have e-mails and copys of the rental contract.

During a Royal Caribbean Cruise Vacation July, 2008, we ended up in Cozumel and were approached by a white female who offered us a taxi and a free lunch just to tour the Hotel she was representing.  When we got there, we were greeted by a lady.  She claimed to be new at the job and began to explained that she liked working there because this Timeshare company had the best deals and on and on.  We advised her we were not interested and she took us for a tour at one of the condo’s, and meanwhile kept pushing for the deal and we kept telling them we were not interested.  During this whole time, they kept offering free alcoholic beverages and we took them.   We tried leaving and that’s when they introduced us to a gentleman named Alejandro Diaz.  This gentleman was more aggressive and stated that taking one of their Timeshares was a great investment, and that we could use it anytime we wanted to.  The only thing we had to do was book it 30 days in advance.   After many pleads from this gentleman, we resisted and that is when we were introduced to a heavy set lady named Heather Black, who claimed to be the attorney for El Cid and guaranteed us that if for any reason we were not satisfied with the contract she would be more than happy to dissolve the contract.  After that statement, we felt more comfortable and gave in, signed the contract for $13,000.00 dollars which included accommodations for six people, gave a down payment using a credit card for $2,680.00 dollars, and agreed to give a monthly payments for 84 months and a yearly maintenance fee of $500.00 dollars.  The first payment was October 2008.

Around March we started planning for our summer vacation, and of course we tried booking our vacation at El Cid and everything was booked for a year and a half there was nothing available for six people.  The gentleman I spoke with claimed there was never anything available for six people.  We tried other places with their partner RCI, again nothing available.  We felt so upset, my wife was crying uncontrollably stating, “I can’t believe anyone would be so cruel and take money from people with such false promises.  How can they sleep at night?”  We really thought it was a good investment being a family of six, it is really expensive when staying at Hotels for vacation.  We continued paying the Timeshare and made many efforts to reach the salespeople we signed the contract with no results for the past five months.  We even email them a letter stating we wanted the contract terminated on Septenber, 2009 with no answer.  After numerous calls to El Cid customer service, leaving messages stating our plea, no answer.  We are now being harassed by El Cid’s collection agency via telephone and mail.  When I contact them, all they are interested in is getting a payment.  They do not want to discuss any other issues, other than when will we be giving a payment.   We are unable to continue paying for a service that is not being provided and with the economy down this has become a financial burden for us.

Esther

I have 2 timeshares (not by choice). I would like to resolve the problems I have had with them. The first is Mayan Palace the second is El Cid ( who promised to sell Mayan if I bought from them and did nothing). I would be happy to engage your services and look forward to hearing from you.

Sandy

In about 2005 we bought a timeshare from El Cid in Mazatlan. This was a scam from the start with the salesperson being a Fernando Gonzalez. Nothing we were told was factual and we were told that we had signed a waiver that did not allow us to cancel. We paid $18,000 for it and used it only the next year, with nothing being as it was promised. Since that time we have tried to return it asking nothing but to be released from the contract. We have paid up-front to have it sold but have been scammed once more. We stopped paying the maintenance fee this year and tried to give it back again to no avail. They have now turned this over to a debt collector. We will never use this again as everything about it has been lies. Can you help us find a solution? We are away from our home for the winter so did not receive the notice until today which states that we have only to Jan. 23 (30 days) before negative credit reports. Thanking you for any help.

My father and his wife signed up for a timeshare unit through El Cid in Mazatlan last October. Me, my husband, and my kids were also with them at the meeting and other family members were at the resort with us. My father had already purchased a basic package the year prior to that with the understanding that our vacation there would be free and that food, drinks, and other amenities would be free. The meeting took place on our first day there. It was to upgrade my father to VIP status. He was promised that he would be able to sell his points to pay for this upgrade and then again every year after for a profit. We were also told that his entire family would be able to get 1/2 price airfare, hotels, and car rentals. He signed up and paid a down payment with the rest due in April of this year. They promised that he would not have to pay any more in April as he would have earned enough by then to pay it off. When we went to check out of the resort, they were going to charge him for each of the four rooms, food, drinks and other amenities that he believed were supposed to be free because of his original contract. He did end up still paying some but they did not charge him for the rooms and the rest of the food that were on his bill. He asked me to bring home the contract and figure out how to sell his points and get the 1/2 price airfare for my family. I called RCI and they had no such programs. I called El Cid and they did not have any such programs either nor would they talk to me about what had been said. They told me that the original man that we talked to would call me back and he never did. I have been calling and trying to email them since. I have to email through their website as I have no email contact information for them and they do not return my emails and I do not have a copy of them either. I just found your website and am wondering if it is too late to try and get out of this contract. In October the week after he signed up, they were telling me that I would have to wait until January to be able to sell the points. They said that they were going to send an ID number in the mail by then. They never sent the number. I emailed RCI and they gave me this ID number in January but they said that they had never heard of this program and I would have to contact El Cid directly to figure it out. I have called and so has my father repeatedly but no one will talk to us about it. When I call El Cid, they give me the number for RCI. When I call RCI, they give me the number for El Cid. My father went to their San Diego office and talked to a man there. He gave my father a business card with his information on it. He told my father to have me email him a complaint with the details in it. I have tried emailing the address on the card and the email does not exist. My father has called San Diego and Mazatlan repeatedly and they say that since these promises are not written in the contract, there is nothing we can do. My father gets billed every month for the cleaning fees and they automatically deduct it from his credit card. He has not paid any of the timeshare payments at all. They call and are threatening him constantly. I am wondering if he can get out of both or at least the last contract or has it been too long ago now? It has been a year since the VIP contract was signed and two years since he got the first contract.

I was down staying in Mazatlan, Mexico with an another couple and I met with the El Cid Resort group.  We were told that El Cid would sell our other time shares in 90 days and gave us the price for each different time share.  This money could be the down payment on their El Cid VIP club.  That must really \"very ignorant person\"!!  So, after putting $18,000 down and signing on for the balance, which was supposed to be paid off by the proceeds of the properties.  Until the property monies were transferred, we would make a payment of $672.03. This would only be until Oct 1, and all would be taken care of.  Well El Cid will not return any of our e-mails and the contact information they gave us do not work.  The main culprit we dealt with was Lic. Fernando Alonso Gonzalez, El Cid Management.  The only communication that comes is for the payments, which also include a $109 monthly maintenance payment!!!  I am exploring a way to approach this problem, legally, if possible.  This seems to be a complete scam.  Now tomorrow is Oct 1, and I expect NOTHING AT ALL FROM El Cid!

Now looking for other persons in this same state.

My mother has been scamed by El Cid Morrow Towers.  She already had a timeshare, but 4 years ago, the convinced her to upgrade for more money!  She now has $18,000.00 into them.  What are the options?  She now wants to give it to me, as she no longer wants it.

We bought into El Cid Vacation Club this past April 2009, they had me sign over a timeshare property that my mom and I owned.  My mom was not there and so she did not sign this agreement.  She feels this was wrong, in that they should have had both our They said this was so easy to use, so cheap, so affordable.  Well it isn\'t, it is deceptive, I get bills that say I\'m late in payments, charging me late fees that I didn\'t even get a first bill for.  They told me there were no maintenace fees for RCI, I\'ve paid them $600 already!   We want out!  Thank you for any help!signatures since they were on the original contract.  So I am wondering if this was even legal.

In Jan. \'08,wE purchased 210,000 points from Rui Veloso of El Cid Vacation resorts in Mazatlan. Mr. Veloso drew up an agreement to rent out our points to help to pay for the contract #0605599, in Dec. of that year. According to this agreement the rental would be guaranteed  to provide us with the sum of  $10,000 US. no later than January of \"09. We did not receive this money at that time or since. We have had to borrow money to pay for the contract. THe rental company did not receive notice to rent out our points . We ended up owing El Cid collections a total of $12,333 US as interest had accrued . Mr. Veloso sent us a cheque for $1200. US, in July of \'09. He has since refused to honour the agreement drawn up, saying he works for El Cid ,not the rental company.
